Specialist Literacy Centre

The Australian Literacy Academy is a private English tutoring centre dedicated to helping children of all levels and spectrums reach their full potential in the area of literacy: reading, writing, spelling, comprehension and speaking and listening.

We provide literacy support to individuals, parents, teachers, schools and the community.

Teaching Methodologies & Resources

Our teaching methodologies and resources reflect the latest research in literacy education for children in primary and high school at all levels of achievement. 

Our educational materials are constantly updated and refined through research and practise. This ensures the resources we use match the Australian National Curriculum standards and the individual needs of each student.

Building Skills for Success in Life

We believe every child deserves the right to a good education, which is essential for success in life. We therefore do not support the philosophy of entrance exams at our centre as they are exclusionary and directly prevent children accessing the right to a good education.

Individualised Learning Environment

We believe in individualised learning that can only occur through meaningful and correct instruction from highly trained, qualified and experienced teachers.

We believe that a learning environment that allows one to one focus is highly beneficial to maximise the child’s learning, confidence and achievement.

Adaptable Learning Program

We believe a learning program should be adaptable allowing it to meet the needs of the learner rather than forcing the learner to fit within the strict confines of a set program that only addresses some of the learners’ needs. We create programs specifically tailored to the individual at all levels of achievement.

Parent & School Involvement

We recognise and support parent and school involvement as this directly correlates to the successful learning of the child. Building strong relationships between parent and child and parent and teacher creates a strong foundation for effective learning and support.

Nuturing & Motivating Learning Environment

We believe a child’s learning environment should feel safe, caring, nurturing and motivating. We believe such a learning environment is essential for learning success.

Confidence Building

Confidence building in children is an important aspect of effective teaching, which can only occur with highly trained, specialised teachers. This is not observed in overcrowded group orientated learning settings.  

Setting Learning Goals

We believe in setting specific learning goals for every child each term. By observing, evaluating and recording, we can ensure effective instruction and success in all learning goals.  

Learning goals and learner progress should be the commitment and combined efforts of learners, teachers and parents.
